Growing readily from Ageratum flower seeds, this annual grows to about 12 inches tall and is great for either beds or containers. Ageratum Mexicanum blooms all summer, and the butterflies love it. It is also an excellent fresh cut flower. The more you cut, the more flowers the plant produces. The bloom has a long vase life, and it also dries well. To dry, cut when bloom is still tight and hang to dry indoors out of direct light. Once dried, Ageratum is useful in wreaths and arrangements.
Start Ageratum seeds indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the end of frost season. Transplant after danger of frost has passed. Plant pink Ageratum in full sun in cooler climates and part shade in hot climates. Ageratum plants are liberal self-sowers. Deadhead to keep the Ageratum flower seeds from spreading in the the garden and to keep the blooming continuous. Otherwise, the ageratum seeds will drop on the ground and germinate the next spring.
